The Banfield Charitable Trust (BCT)has announced a new program, Pet Peace of Mind, which recognizes and actively supports the unique bond between hospice patients and their pets. The nationwide program launched May 1 and aligns with the BCT's mission to fund or administer programs to keep pets and families together.

The House tentatively passed a bill that would let pets be covered by domestic violence protective orders. The author said abused family members could ask judges to prevent pets from being threatened or harmed. "They are often times afraid to leave the pet behind so they don't leave," said Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, R-Parker, the bill's sponsor. "And this would just help those victims feel secure that all will be safe and get out of the abusive situation," said Laubenberg (right). Eleven
